FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Thank you for your interest in job opportunities at Stone Brothers Racing. We get so many requests for information that it is not practical to respond personally to each one. However, in an effort to provide information to those who are unfamiliar with the process we have provided some answers to commonly asked questions.

How do I get a job in motorsport?
There are various roles in motorsport depending on what field you are looking at experience and training is required relative to that role.

What qualifications/experience is required?
Once you have decided on what role you would like to take part in the experience required varies. In almost every case we hire people with some type of racing experience. If you are interested in the mechanical side applicants generally are required to have proficiency in certain skills such as welding or fabrication combined with an understanding of how race shops function.

If you are looking for your first experience in the racing industry it might benefit you to start at the local or regional level by visiting some tracks or development series teams near your area.

Your initiative will need to take over from that point. Most of the learning that goes on in racing currently takes the form of on-the-job training. There are some TAFE classes and university courses that offer racing oriented classes and may also be a good place to start. There is no particular program or school that we recommend.

What qualities do you look for in an employee?
Working for a race team is no ‘ordinary job’. Employees must be committed and most importantly passionate about the sport. The V8 supercar season involves travel and long hours

Shane spent his formative years racing ATVs on natural terrain motocross tracks and a Quarter Midget on speedway ovals before a brief but typically successful dalliance with karts. Since then he has been on a fast track to major Australasian success. In 2010, driving the SBR #9 SP Tools Racing Falcon, Shane has already shown signs that have marked him as a future star of V8 Supercars.
Slade stamped his mark as a man to watch in 2006, when he finished runner up in the Australia Formula Ford Championship. Since then he has also seen success in the Fujistu Development Series and this year is entering his second fulltime season in the V8 Supercars main game racing alongside his SBR teammates in the #47 Wilson Security Racing Falcon.
