V8 SUPERCARS RULES

Starting Procedure

At any time not less than three (3) seconds and not more than five (5) seconds after the red light is shown, the start of the race will be indicated by the extinguishing of the red light. NOTE:  A green light may be displayed to indicate that the race has started. It is not compulsory to show such green lights. If the lights are not functioning, the National Flag will be used, being raised at the five (5) second mark, and dropped to indicate the start of the race.

Safety Checks

All cars will need to be inspected prior to the first round entered; this will be conducted at the Teams workshop.

Combined Driver and Car Weight

V8 Supercars must achieve a minimum weight of 1445kg including the weight of the driver and apparel.

Fuel Tank Capacity

Total capacity for the entire fuel system is 120 litres.

Tyres - NEW RULE

Tyres will be allocated to Cars not Teams in 2009.

This means that only the car that was allocated the tyre can use that tyre at any race meeting. Teams will be able to swap their tyres between cars on test days. A Car will be defined by its competition number.

At a general Sprint Event 12 tyres per car will be allocated.

Driver Evaluation

Teams are permitted two Driver evaluation days each year.

Practice – NEW RULE

The three parts of practice A, B & C will now be divided into 35, 50 & 50 minute sessions respectively.

Saturday and Sunday Qualifying – NEW RULE

V8 Supercars Australia will provide two complete days of world class racing at every non-endurance Championship event following a decision to add a qualifying session for each Sunday race.

Starting at the Hamilton 400 in New Zealand, a 20 minute qualifying session will be held on Sunday morning at all two-race weekends, giving fans two distinct and stand-alone race days.

Qualifying for each Saturday race retains two knockout qualifying sessions and a top ten shootout, while on Sunday the shorter session sets a new grid for race two.

Starting Position – NEW RULE

The grid for both races at a Sprint Event will be determined by the Qualifying results. As a result both races will have the same starting grid.

Traction Control

Traction Control is prohibited

Test Days

Each team are allowed 4 tests days at their home "test" circuits.

There are no minimum or maximum lap requirements.

Fire Safety

All driver suits must be of FIA Approved 8856-2000 standard.

All drivers must wear full FIA approved underwear including gloves and balaclava.

Pit Stops – NEW RULE

During a pit stop 6 people are allowed over the pit road control line. This includes a Car Controller, Air Jack Operator, two wheel change persons, a fuel person and a fire extinguisher person.

Enduro events will incur an extra two people over the control line.

Pit Road Yellow Line

During any time of the race if a piece of the car (e.g. wheel nut) crosses the yellow line during a pit stop a drive through penalty will apply.

Pit Lane Speed

The speed Limit is 40 km/h in Pit Lane at all times and if exceeded during any practice or qualifying session (however described) may result in the Driver being referred to the Stewards; and in any race, the Race Director may apply aPLP (Pit Lane Penalty) and in either case, the Driver may be referred to the Stewards for any other Penalty provided by the Rules.

Team Numbers – NEW RULE

Teams entered in the 202009 VCS are permitted to have a maximum 7 performance related

Personnel per Car attend each Sprint Event. Teams are permitted to share personnel within their Team or with other VCS Teams. Contractors and 3rd party suppliers will be required to belisted in the 7 only if they contribute to the performance of the Car.

A 3rd party contractor may be excluded from the list if they supply services to the entire VCS field. A person will be deemed to have contributed to the performance of a Car if they work on the Car or they in any way review or interpret the data derived from the Car.

The table below outlines some of the personnel who will be counted in the 7. V8 Supercars may add more personnel to either side of the list by way of clarification.

Alex comes from a true motor racing family. His father Richard and late grandfather Lex Davison have seen much success in open wheel categories. Alex's motor racing career began when he served his driver apprenticeship racing karts where he won the 1995 Australian Karting Championship. 2010 is Alex's second year with Stone Brothers Racing and in the #4 IRWIN Racing Falcon.
Shane spent his formative years racing ATVs on natural terrain motocross tracks and a Quarter Midget on speedway ovals before a brief but typically successful dalliance with karts. Since then he has been on a fast track to major Australasian success. In 2010, driving the SBR #9 SP Tools Racing Falcon, Shane has already shown signs that have marked him as a future star of V8 Supercars.
