VAN GISBERGEN TO START FROM FRONT ROW IN BAHRAIN 26/02/2010
SP Tools Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen will start this afternoon’s 200km race in Bahrain from the front row after qualifying second fastest in the Top Ten Shootout. Van Gisbergen put in a sensational lap that was only outdone by reigning V8 Supercar Champion, Jamie Whincup on the session’s final lap.
“It’s great to get my first front row start, it’s great for SP Tools and SBR.

“The track changed so much between the qualifying and shootout sessions, I think it was Will Davison that set a low five in the times and we all thought he would be up the front but the track was a lot better for our car. We made a couple of changes between the sessions and that helped us”, said van Gisbergen.

“It’s good to be starting second so hopefully we are still sitting here at the end of the day.”

“It’s been a great start to the season but it’s the team that have stepped up, I’m just the last piece of the puzzle. They worked so hard over the offseason and made some great developments to the car.”

IRWIN Racing’s Alex Davison will start this afternoons 37 lap race from 12th while Wilson Security Racing’s Tim Slade will start from 19th.

The Gulf Air Desert 400 Race 1 starts at 3:35pm.

Alex comes from a true motor racing family. His father Richard and late grandfather Lex Davison have seen much success in open wheel categories. Alex's motor racing career began when he served his driver apprenticeship racing karts where he won the 1995 Australian Karting Championship. 2010 is Alex's second year with Stone Brothers Racing and in the #4 IRWIN Racing Falcon.
Shane spent his formative years racing ATVs on natural terrain motocross tracks and a Quarter Midget on speedway ovals before a brief but typically successful dalliance with karts. Since then he has been on a fast track to major Australasian success. In 2010, driving the SBR #9 SP Tools Racing Falcon, Shane has already shown signs that have marked him as a future star of V8 Supercars.
